Milford, CT
Historic Greek Revival -An Antique Collectors Dream.
This Federal Colonial, built ca 1838 was the residence of Nehemiah and Abigail Clark and their three children. Nehemiah Clark was a direct descendant of one of
the town's original settlers. Nehemiah handed the home down to his son Edgar, who willed it to his daughter. The Colonial stayed in the family until 1963. During their 125
years on Governors Avenue the Clarks made some renovations.
For example: They constructed a two-story bay window area in the 1870", then around the turn of the
century put on a rear addition, retaining the houses character and charm.
Since 1963 two new owners have followed the Clark's tradition in many ways and tried to be sensitive to the house's traits and roots. Most windows have been replaced and insulation added where
plaster was removed and switched to sheetrock. With 2,800 square feet of living space and 13 character-filled rooms lovingly updated and restored, it is one of Milford's most gracious
homes, recalling the past and embracing the present. The home's vintage has given it a fabulous in-town location-within waking distance of Milford's beaches, harbor, quaint downtown area, the green
and even the train station. Yet, the picturesque half-acre property, complete with a two-car barn, is also very private. Abundant
perennial and rose gardens, a vegetable garden and grape arbor can be enjoyed from the two enclosed porches. |
